This past weekend’s Rock Raizer event at Club Encore was a huge success! This event merged the hottest fashion designers and musicians, and if you weren’t there you sure missed out on what was simply a display of the talent we have here in Austin, TX. Julie Talyor made an exciting interesting way to get people of Austin as passionate about music and creativity as her team at Rock Raizer is. This non-profit organization aims to provide music scholarships to underprivileged children, and all proceeds from the April 17th event will benefit this cause. Thanks to the success of the Rock Raizer Fashion Show, those less-fortunate will be given a great opportunity to pursue their dreams.
I arrived at Encore around 6pm allowing myself ample time to take in the scene and capture memorable moments backstage. The chaotic atmosphere was so inspiring. Designers, hair stylists and even Julie Taylor working with the models to ensure a great show. And Melissa D’Attilio of Fly Productions went above and beyond making certain the night ran smoothly and professionally.
About a half hour before the show started, Julie informed me since ticket sales were so unexpectedly high, and the number of models doubling, caused them to push back the show an hour. But it was sure worth the wait. I was incredibly impressed with the clothes sent down the runway. Local Austin designers: Rachelle Briton, Amanda Fay, Ross Bennett, and Megan Summerville, and with the help of the make-up and hair team from Breeze Salon, put on a memorable runway show, that will be sure to boost in their notoriety. Megan Summerville’s lingerie line walked last. The designs were so versitile and appealed to different body types, while still showing classy sex-appeal. Later, I discovered Megan’s line won her the 2009 Texas Next Top Designer, and I can see why! But there is no doubt I will be visiting all the designers store very soon.
As a fairly new resident to Austin I still was unsure the role fashion plays in this city. After attending the Rock Raizer am no longer unsure. I was blown away by the talent of these local designers, and am anxious to see what else this city has to offer.
