Fashionably Austin's concept was developed by Austin's own Cheryl Bemis several years ago while a fashion reporter for New 8 Austin. Cheryl created the weekly television fashion segment, Fashionably 8, for News 8 Austin, which still airs today. During the five years she anchored, produced and edited her fashion segment for News 8, Cheryl gave viewers an insider’s look at local designers and the hottest shopping spots and trends in Austin. Cheryl has interviewed celebrities and fashion luminaries, such as Diane von Furstenberg, Badgley Mischka, the stars of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Leon Hall from E!’s Fashion Emergency, celebrity hairstylist José Eber, and many other familiar names.
Cheryl was the first on-air personality for News 8 Austin to be recognized for her work by the Austin Chronicle; she was honored with the critic’s pick for “Best Fashion Coverage on Local TV.” She also covered the catwalks at New York’s Fashion Week in a highly praised week-long series for News 8.
Prior to moving to Austin and becoming a fashion reporter for News 8, she was an on-air fashion expert in Dallas, Texas and in Buffalo, New York. She has also co-hosted a local morning radio program, and has produced and hosted two men’s fashion videos for Men's Wearhouse. Cheryl also currently writes a monthly fashion column for Austin Monthly Magazine where she shares the latest fashion news and events.
With her degree in fashion/marketing and more than 20 years in the fashion business, Cheryl has poured her passion into FashionablyAustin.com. Fashionably Austin was launched in July 2009 with her debut interview with Clinton Kelly of "What Not To Wear". She quickly followed up her success with coverage of the Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week New York in September of 2009 and will be covering the 2010 Fall Collection at Bryant Park during the February 2010 Fashion Week.
Cheryl isn't stopping with just Fashionably Austin - plans are underway to launch Fashionably Connected in the coming weeks which will feature video interviews of fashion industry insiders and profiles of nationally and internationally known designers who will share their story and passion and serve as inspriation for budding fashion careers and connect consumers with designers on a more personal level.
Also look for FashionablyDallas.com and FashionablyHouston.com to launch later this year - with plans to expand beyond Texas as she pursues her dream to connect local communities with local designers and boutiques and provide exposure and promotional opporotunties that will help their businesses succeed.
